NBC/Today Show reported results from a recent study that found certain types of breast cancer may not require chemotherapy that's often combined with radiation/hormone treatment in many cases of breast cancer. The type of cancer is very specific: early stage without lymph node involvement, estrogen and/or progesterone positive, as well as other factors your oncologist must consider before using this latest regime. I'm excited to share this with you because my cancer met the criteria and my treatment consisted of radiation 5 days a wk, for 7-8 wks ( it was @ 37) and the pill, Tamoxifen (estrogen suppressor)--no chemo. My chances of reoccurrence are less than 5% in the treated breast and my oncologist suggested that I consider a hysterectomy to eliminate estrogen production, which will also lower my risk of cervical cancer.
